I Miss My GBA Games, Nintendo

When the Wii came out, one of the things I was excited about more than anything else (except for the ability to play Twilight Princess) was the Virtual Console. I had always dreamed of playing the games that I missed out on in my childhood, and the Virtual Console was going to help me rectify my mistakes. I could now play Super Metroid, Paper Mario, Yoshi’s Story, Super Mario 64 (before hate comments start flowing in, I had a PlayStation growing up) and other classics. I was beyond excited, although the fact that it took almost three years to release The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask is somewhat unforgivable. I quickly downloaded several gems to add to my collection, and I became content. Then when I heard that the 3DS was going to have its own Virtual Console for Game Boy and Game Boy Color games, I was ecstatic. I could barely control my joy, and then I realized that Game Boy Advance games were not headed to the Virtual Console and went into a deep, dark depression (Read: not really). Read the full story

Review: The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword (Wii)

This Thanksgiving, we have many things to be thankful for. Some are thankful for the blessings in their lives, while some are thankful for having such loving friends and family. I’m thankful to have a new Zelda game to play through, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, Link’s first true adventure for the Wii. The question is, however, does it soar above the clouds or does it plummet to the ground? Read the full story

Review: No More Heroes: Heroes’ Paradise (PS3)

When your character looks like he’s jerking off with furious vigor just to recharge your primary weapon, you know you’ve got a gem of a game on your hands. Such is the case with No More Heroes: Heroes’ Paradise, the enhanced PS3 port of the original 2007 Nintendo Wii game No More Heroes. Look, the game isn’t perfect. It had flaws in the original Wii version, and it has flaws still in the HD PS3 version. Flaws aside, the No More Heroes franchise, Heroes’ Paradise included, provides an incredibly violent, immature, clever, and unique experience, which goes a long way towards making up for the technical flaws of the game. House of the Dead: Overkill Trailer Redefines Not Safe For Work

Zombie babies. There is more to see in this trailer than just zombie babies. However, I feel that zombie babies are the highlight of this thing. You may too.

E3 2011: X-Men Destiny

I’m going to go a bit hipster on you right now. Before it was mainstream and popular, I read comics. Before it was mainstream and popular, I ran around on the playground pretending Rogue was my girlfriend and adamantium claws were popping out of my fists. Before it was mainstream and popular, I was collecting and trading Fleer Ultra cards with my like-minded friends. I am a X-Nerd, and I can’t wait for X-Men Destiny. Read the full story

E3 2011: Kirby Wii

Pop Star’s pink puff-ball will be returning to the Wii, nearly one year after going 2-D–traversing hazardous stitching and weaves–in Epic Yarn, in his newest title: Kirby Wii (tentative title). Kirby Wii maintains the traditional Kirby gaming experience while adding on new-ish features to the mix. Kirby’s newest escapade in Pop Star heralds yet another one of Nintendo’s mascots to appear on the Wii or the Wii-U in the coming months.

E3 2011: Captain America: Super Soldier

Superhero video games do not exactly have a reputation for excellence. For every X-Men Arcade, there are two Superman 64s. When you get into superhero video games that are released as tie-ins to superhero movies, it gets even worse. For every Spider-Man 2, there are five games like…well…Spider-Man 3. So while I await the release of any superhero game with great anticipation, due to the success and quality of titles like Spider-Man 2 or X-Men Origins: Wolverine, there’s always an underlying sense of incredible dread, due to the quality of titles like Iron Man or Thor. My current superhero video game anticipation? Captain America: Super Soldier. Having had a chance to play it both at E3 and at a SEGA event prior to E3, I have to say that the only dread I feel about this title is the month+ I still have to wait to get my hands on it for real. E3 2011: Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure

Every now and then a game comes along that, while designed and marketed for a younger market, captures my interest and imagination in a uniquely satisfying way. No, I’m not talking about Barbie Horse Adventures. I’m talking about one of Activision’s E3 offerings, Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure. Read the full story

E3 2011: Centipede: Infestation

Missile Command was tasked with defending the planet from a massive barrage of…missiles. Unfortunately, Missile Command failed. The resulting explosion brought about mutations in the local insects. The insects were not happy with their mutations and, led by the fearsome villain CENTIPEDE, they decided to make their previous oppressors (that would be the people who smush bugs) pay for their murderous ways. About Marooners’ Rock

Everyone grows up; this is how the world works. Just because we grow decrepit and old, however, does not mean we have to forsake the things that make us happy, childish though they may seem. This is the core concept of Marooners’ Rock; we geek out on the things of our past, present, and future. Society and cultural norms be damned!
