Red Faction: Guerrilla (Xbox 360 Demo)

After the disappointment of the Bionic Commando demo, I downloaded the Red Faction: Guerrilla demo.  I had heard good things about this game, so I thought I’d give it a shot.  Thankfully, this demo actually let me try the game properly.

The first thing that I noticed in this game is that you can destroy EVERYTHING.  E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G!  With a sledgehammer, I was desetroying buildings, swing by swing.  Solar panels, computers, explosive chests (I learned not to melee those, by the way), and more.  It’s a playground of carnage, and I love it.  The controls are easy to get the hang of, and the combat is a blast.  The weapons are wonderful.  I love that damn sledgehammer, and those remote detonation mines are lovely.

The demo level is very open.  You can climb almost anywhere.  Terrain that in most games would be inaccessible is easily traversed in this game.  My biggest complaint is that there is no HUD that I could find.  It is difficult to see how much health you have, etc, which makes strategy and quick combat somewhat more dangerous than in other games.  Information is vital!

I love this demo, and I can’t wait to get my hands on the full game so that I can DESTROY E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G!

About Marooners’ Rock

Everyone grows up; this is how the world works. Just because we grow decrepit and old, however, does not mean we have to forsake the things that make us happy, childish though they may seem. This is the core concept of Marooners’ Rock; we geek out on the things of our past, present, and future. Society and cultural norms be damned!
