Path of Exile has saved me from a relative rut in gaming. I’m going to try to be brief in this preview as we have a few surprises coming up concerning the game. I will also post updated previews as the game moves towards open beta and then full release. In the meantime, read on for a bit of a high level preview about Path of Exile.

Rayman Origins was one of the best games that 2011 had to offer. Note that I did not qualify that by saying that it was one of the best PLATFORMERS of 2011, but one of the best GAMES of 2011, regardless of game type. Not only was it one of 2011′s best offerings, it is easily the best platformer of this entire generation, and quite possibly one of the best platformers I have ever had the exquisite pleasure of playing. On March 19th, this previously console and soon to be handheld offering will be making its way to PC players. Read the full story

Is there anything more enjoyable and surreal than playing as cute versions of giant robots fighting a bloody war? Depends on if you’re a Gundam fan.

You know, for the most part, I’m a modifier kind of guy. When I had my 5th Gen Honda Prelude, I upgraded the intake, the springs, the ECU, the sound system, and more. When I got my first iPhone, it was jailbroken post haste, and each iteration has been ever since (going on four years, now). When I buy a computer, it comes in individual pieces that I put together to my heart’s content. I generally don’t go for the out-of-the-box experience, and recently that’s started being the case for consoles as well. Our 250GB hard drive for the Xbox 360S in the other room is third party, and was a third of the price, and I’ve had my eye on a few other third-party peripherals and accessories for quite some time. One thing that came to my attention recently was the Subsonic Pro Controller Fluo for PS3 and PC. Read the full story

Ever since I was a human child, playing a racing game of any sort would see my dramatically tilting, angling, and swinging my controller around as I leaned into turns and weaved around obstacles and competitors. Now, even as a human spawn, I knew that my wild undulations and swaying had no actual effect…but it totally did, so sod off. There were racing wheels, sure, but they weren’t always that great. On occasion, a racing wheel would come out that did a fantastic job at translating my actions onto the screen as accurately as an actual controller. The release of the Subsonic Racin’ Pro PS3/PC steering wheel and chair combo…is not one of those occasions. Read the full story

I have tried incredibly hard to love A Game of Thrones: Genesis. AGoT has so many great ideas it hurts to not love it. First, a little bit about my knowledge of the stories that inspired this… game. I know this will upset the diehards but I entered the world through the exemplary HBO series. I read the book along with each episode, making sure to stay just behind the current story. Then school started and my reading quickly turned to government and real history. I do love the stories, but Genesis does nothing to enhance my understanding of the world, for better or worse.

Last month, we found out that one of my favorite games, Counter-Strike, was getting a re-release of sorts onto consoles as Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. Loaded with new maps, updated classic maps from the original game, new game modes, ranked matchmaking, cross-platform play, leaderboards, new weapons, and more, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is going to absolutely kill any free time I may or may not have had available in 2012, and maybe longer. I know this will probably lower some opinions of me, but I don’t particularly care for the Half-Life series. The only thing I really appreciate at all about Half-Life is that it served as the base for one of my favorite games of all time: Counter-Strike. Back in a time when I was still on dial-up, I spent many hours (and many dollars) at local LAN/Online game centers playing de_rats, de_dust2, de_pool, and every other map that came up in a room full of people doing exactly the same thing. Now, 12 years later, Counter-Strike is coming to consoles in the form of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, a PSN/XBLA/Steam downloadable game. Read the full story
