The Legend of Zelda: Setting Sail On a New Voyage

Hyrule Historia, the Holy Grail for Zelda fans that was recently released in Japan, is full of interesting facts. One such interesting fact is a confirmation of a new Zelda game under development. Now, that isn’t exactly startling, considering things that certain Nintendo employees have said recently. What caught my attention, however, is what Eiji Aonuma said that confirmed the development of the new game: Read the full story

Did I Make A Mistake?

Well, the final ten games for Nintendo’s 3DS Ambassador Program have arived, bringing the total up to 20; ten NES games and ten GBA games. But some of you may be asking the question, “Did I make a mistake by purchasing my 3DS early/late?” For those of you aren’t aware, Nintendo decided to drop the price of the 3DS from $250 to $170 earlier this summer. Most of the people who decided to drop $250 on a 3DS (or trade in 3/4ths of your game library, like me), then got pretty irritated once they heard of the price drop. Because of that, Nintendo then decided to treat those of us who purchased a 3DS and connected it to the internet by August 11th, 2011. This token of appreciation was the Ambassador Program, which gave early adopters 20 free games. But was it worth it? Read the full story

Is Retro Studios Working on a New Zelda?

Did you get excited when you read the title of this article? I know I did. Of course, this isn’t written in stone, but according to an interview between Wired.com and the legendary Shigeru Miyamoto, it is possible that Retro Studios could be working on the newest installment in the Legend of Zelda franchise. I, personally, am just about to die from happiness. For those of you who are unaware, Retro Studios was responsible for the amazing Metroid Prime games (read: Metroid Prime: Hunters and Pinball were by created someone else), which are some of my favorite games of all time. Retro is also responsible for Donkey Kong Returns, a well-received Wii game that was a return to DK’s vine-swinging roots. Retro also helped out with some of the designs for Mario Kart 7. Retro Studios is one of my favorite developers at the moment, and, frankly, my dream job would be to work for them. Read the full story

I Miss My GBA Games, Nintendo

When the Wii came out, one of the things I was excited about more than anything else (except for the ability to play Twilight Princess) was the Virtual Console. I had always dreamed of playing the games that I missed out on in my childhood, and the Virtual Console was going to help me rectify my mistakes. I could now play Super Metroid, Paper Mario, Yoshi’s Story, Super Mario 64 (before hate comments start flowing in, I had a PlayStation growing up) and other classics. I was beyond excited, although the fact that it took almost three years to release The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask is somewhat unforgivable. I quickly downloaded several gems to add to my collection, and I became content. Then when I heard that the 3DS was going to have its own Virtual Console for Game Boy and Game Boy Color games, I was ecstatic. I could barely control my joy, and then I realized that Game Boy Advance games were not headed to the Virtual Console and went into a deep, dark depression (Read: not really). Read the full story

Gaming and Giving – An Inspiration Like No Other

I’ve been gaming since around the age of five, and up until last November I thought I had achieved some of the most rewarding and inspiring moments of my gaming life: catching ‘em all the first time, vanquishing Ganon for the first time, the list goes on. But something happened over the course of 48 hours from November 19 to November 21 that easily put all of those achievements to shame and replaced the pride of succeeding and accomplishment with the pride of our medium and community making a difference. About Marooners’ Rock

Everyone grows up; this is how the world works. Just because we grow decrepit and old, however, does not mean we have to forsake the things that make us happy, childish though they may seem. This is the core concept of Marooners’ Rock; we geek out on the things of our past, present, and future. Society and cultural norms be damned!
