Gaming and Giving – An Inspiration Like No Other

I’ve been gaming since around the age of five, and up until last November I thought I had achieved some of the most rewarding and inspiring moments of my gaming life: catching ‘em all the first time, vanquishing Ganon for the first time, the list goes on. But something happened over the course of 48 hours from November 19 to November 21 that easily put all of those achievements to shame and replaced the pride of succeeding and accomplishment with the pride of our medium and community making a difference. E3 2011: Kirby Wii

Pop Star’s pink puff-ball will be returning to the Wii, nearly one year after going 2-D–traversing hazardous stitching and weaves–in Epic Yarn, in his newest title: Kirby Wii (tentative title). Kirby Wii maintains the traditional Kirby gaming experience while adding on new-ish features to the mix. Kirby’s newest escapade in Pop Star heralds yet another one of Nintendo’s mascots to appear on the Wii or the Wii-U in the coming months.

Review: Monster Jam: Path of Destruction (Wii)

Ah yes, Monster Jam. A bizarre obsession in America, ranking close with NASCAR as an one of our most popular vehicle-based “sports” wherein the drivers perform amazing stunts and complete speedy races to awe the crowd. Really, both are incredibly simplistic endeavors, but they manage to gather enough popularity to create a handful of console games, a few of which get ported over to the Wii with, ah, mixed results. Thus enters Monster Jam: Path of Destruction.

Before I say anything about the gamplay, understand something. I love unnecessary peripherals. And this game comes with a steering wheel and stickers! I mean, really, how many titles ship with a decent-sized steering wheel to dock your Wii remote into (though it refuses to actually stay docked if you tilt it at all towards you), and stickers to decorate it with? None with both of those, that I know of. It really says something about a game when the best aspect is the peripherals it comes with. So, you probably have gathered where this review is going. Review: Zumba Fitness (Wii)

Not that long ago Zumba Fitness arrived on our doorstep. I’ve been wanting to get my hands on this game for months but when it came, I was sick so I had to wait until I was ready to get up and shake my moneymaker. After playing the game for about a week, I can tell you one thing: Zumba Fitness is unlike any other dance/exercise game out there.

Review: Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon (Wii)

The first time I ever played Ghost Recon was when it came out for the Nintendo GameCube. That game was an absolute blast, and the controller was perfect. My love for Ghost Recon grew as I got into the Xbox versions, but it still wasn’t quite the same as the one for the GameCube. When I heard that a new Ghost Recon was coming out for the Wii, I was excited but at the same time very worried that it wouldn’t live up to my expectations.

Platinum Games Not Done With SEGA Yet

2010 has been an excellent year for Platinum Games, with the North American releases of Bayonetta and Vanquish providing me some of the most memorable gaming I have had the pleasure of experiencing in a very long time. Now that they’ve reached the end of their four-game publishing deal with SEGA, what comes next for the studio that has made itself very near and dear to my heart? Well, obviously, potentially extending their partnership with SEGA for one more game! According to Alan Pritchard, executive VP of Sales and Marketing for SEGA, a fifth title from Platinum Games and SEGA will be announced! Read the full story

About Marooners’ Rock

Everyone grows up; this is how the world works. Just because we grow decrepit and old, however, does not mean we have to forsake the things that make us happy, childish though they may seem. This is the core concept of Marooners’ Rock; we geek out on the things of our past, present, and future. Society and cultural norms be damned!
