The Ghostbusters movies (yes, both of them) will never get old for me. I’ll watch them thirty years from now and still be entertained to no end with the masterfully told story of four men, a woman, another man, another woman, a baby, another man, a giant marshmallow-man, a Carpathian destroyer, an asshole, and a bunch of ghosts. I enjoyed the late-80s animated series at the time, but I’m not sure that it holds up today. Part of my enjoyment may have simply been that I was a child, and it was a Ghostbusters cartoon. More recently, I immersed myself in Ghostbusters: The Video Game (X360), referred to by Dan Akroyd as “essentially the third movie.” With script-editing done by Harold Ramis and Dan Akroyd, and voice talent provided by the original Ghostbusters, Ghostbusters: The Video Game provided an excellent link to the original property wrapped up in a beautifully designed game. Then news came out that a new Ghostbusters game would be released in March of 2011 (last month, for those not keeping track). Anticipation immediately took hold of me; another Ghostbusters game, on XBLA, that could carry Ghostbusters: The Video Game’s contribution to the property forward? Count me in! Read the full story

Atari has tweeted… should that be capitalized? Is tweet a thing to be capitalized? Oh, I don’t care. Anyways, Atari says that Ghostbusters: Sanctum of Slime will be released on March 23 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Read the full story

Last night, after playing through the Wolverine: Origins demo again (I WANT THAT GAME), I downloaded a few more demos to try out. The first one I downloaded was the Ghostbusters: The Video Game demo. I had heard very good things about it. I also heard that it was, essentially, the third installment of the movie series. As a huge fan of the movies (at least the first one), I had to give it a shot.
All of the original cast returns in this game, lending their likenesses and their voices to the video game characters. Dan Akroyd and Harold Ramis, the creators of the series, even helped during development by doing script doctoring. All of this effort resulted in an amazing game (demo). You start off as the fifth member of the Ghostbusters, a rookie in training with newly developed proton packs and equipment. The controls are smooth, and the equipment is fantastic. The graphics are wonderful, and the dialog is exactly what you would expect it to be. This game is very well designed and written. There were quite a few moments where I was startled by sudden ghost attacks or paranormal activities.
Oh yeah, and fighting a massive book golem was awesome.
I definitely want to try the full version.
