Portal 2 DLC Announced

You know how I feel about Portal 2. It’s the only game I’ve given a perfect score (and may, in fact, be the only game that we, as a whole, have given a perfect score to, though some others have come tantalizingly close). The only imperfect thing about it is that there weren’t more test chambers, gameplay modes, or leaderboards. If ONLY there were some way to add those features post-release…wait, what? DLC for Portal 2 has been announced? Read the full story

Review: Blue Toad Murder Files: The Mysteries of Little Riddle (PC)

I have been playing action games lately; big guns, screaming monsters, gory zombies, suspenseful cliffhanger endings leaving you yearning for YEARS just to get your hands on that THIRD EPISODE….. you know, the usual lot.  Action games are great at what they do, but many don’t really make you think.  When I saw a chance to review something a bit quieter and scratch my brain a smidgen, I welcomed the change of pace.

Blue Toad Murder Files: The Mysteries of Little Riddle (what a mouthful!), is a simple puzzle game set in the “Quintessentially Quaint” English village of Little Riddle.  Shortly after you arrive on vacation to Little Riddle, dirty deeds begin to take place!  Burglary!  Arson!!  And even……. .MURDER!!! As a member of the famous Blue Toad detectives, you get right to work.  Ponder puzzles!  Resolve Riddles!  Elucidate Enigmas!  Solve the mysteries of Little Riddle! Read the full story

Review: Knights in the Nightmare (PSP)

It has been months since I picked up my PSP.  Don’t get me wrong, I love the little guy, but I have been too busy to bother with yet another device.  The last few days my youngest (4yrs) has been out of school with a bug, so my TV has been a portal to Sesame Street, and not Pandora.  With a kindly offered code from Lindsey, I decided to charge up my PSP and give Knights in the Nightmare a go! Midweek Madness: Day of Defeat Source

This week’s “Midweek Madness Sale” on Steam is Day of Defeat Source.  The game is 75% off until Thursday at 4PM PDT.  That is ONLY $2.50!

Day of Defeat Source is, as the name implies, a Source Engine remake of the original online shooter.  The game takes place in Europe during World War II.  Choose your side, and one of 6 class types to wage war in intense team based online combat.

I could leave it there, but I have a gift pass to give away.  Read the full story

Free to Play MMO Perspective: EverQuest II Extended (PC)

Recently I wondered to myself, “What is so great about MMORPG’s?”, “Why are people so into them?”.  They have been around for quite some time now, and yet I had never tried one.  Maybe it was the old stigma, “They’re for nerds.”, but something had always told me that they just weren’t the kind of game I would want.  Since I couldn’t really justify my prejudice(I am a nerd after all), and I can’t rightly hate something in complete ignorance, I decided to give them a chance.

I didn’t want to commit another bill to my often far stretched budget, so I went looking for Free-to-Play options.  Many games require you to purchase the software and then the game is subscription free.  I had already tried Guild Wars, and did not find it as feature rich as I would have wanted.  That’s when Everquest II:Extendedcaught my eye.  The game is free to download, and getting set up is as simple as creating an account and a character.  Now, there are good and bad things to this “free” game, but I will only be looking at this from a noob viewpoint.  I don’t intend to go into major details of the community or UI, since I am said Noob. About Marooners’ Rock

Everyone grows up; this is how the world works. Just because we grow decrepit and old, however, does not mean we have to forsake the things that make us happy, childish though they may seem. This is the core concept of Marooners’ Rock; we geek out on the things of our past, present, and future. Society and cultural norms be damned!
