E3 2011: Ghost Recon: Future Soldier

Ghost Recon: Future Soldier’s chief weapon is fun…fun and creativity. Its two weapons are fun and creativity…and excellent graphics. Its three weapons are fun, creativity, and excellent graphics…and wonderful sound. Its four…no… Amongst its weapons… Amongst its weaponry are such elements as fun, creativity, excellent graphics, and wonderful sound. …I may have been watching too much Monty Python and playing too much Game Dev Story recently. That does not, however, make any of what I said less true. Read the full story

E3 2011: Mass Effect 3 or How BioWare Saved My E3

At E3 this year, BioWare Executive Producer Casey Hudson narrated a roughly 30 minute demonstration of Mass Effect 3, which is due out in March 2012, to groups of journalists and retailers.  While I will go on at length about the demo let me just say that I was floored by the presentation.  The theater looked like the shuttle interior from the previous game, they were running the game on a 72″ TV, and the audience was made up of people that loved the series as much as I do. Proper previewing environment, check. Read the full story

E3 2011: Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine

During E3 I stood for a long time waiting to play a single game: Warhammer 40k: Space Marine. I am a huge Warhammer nerd and have been playing for a quite a few years now, so getting the chance to try the game hands on was a real treat for me and something I could  rub into the faces of my friends. For those who are unfamiliar with it, Warhammer 40k started out as a miniatures table-top war game where multiple players can duke it out and attempt to wipe the floor with each other with many different factions. Binary Domain: Core Weapons Trailer

I love shooting robots. I’d much rather be shooting robots than anything else, and hey, did you know that Binary Domain is absolutely filled with shooting robots? Now, you have to shoot the HELL out of Binary Domain’s robots in order to finally put them out of commission, but with the release of the new Core Weapons trailer, we can at least get a good look at what we’ll be shooting these nefariously deactivation-resistant robots with. Driver: San Francisco Cars and Single Player Trailer

With every day that passes, I get closer and closer to having Driver: San Francisco in my hands. I refrain from losing the love of my wife by asking “Is it August 30th yet?” repeatedly; something I am sure she appreciates immensely. I’ve had multiple interactions with the game now over the last couple of months, and each additional look just brings me closer and closer to buying another copy of the original Driver and installing it on my work computer to bridge the gap. E3 2011: X-Men Destiny

I’m going to go a bit hipster on you right now. Before it was mainstream and popular, I read comics. Before it was mainstream and popular, I ran around on the playground pretending Rogue was my girlfriend and adamantium claws were popping out of my fists. Before it was mainstream and popular, I was collecting and trading Fleer Ultra cards with my like-minded friends. I am a X-Nerd, and I can’t wait for X-Men Destiny. Read the full story

E3 2011: BioShock Infinite

Before I rant on BioShock Infinite I would like to thank 2K for the pie and hospitality. I would also like to add that the food was a reasonable substitute for the Playboy bunnies you had last year. If you read this, I would like the name of your caterer. Anyway, enough about the pie and on to Infinite. Read the full story

E3 2011: First Glance at the Wii U

Nintendo pulled a slightly expected fast one on the crowds of people at 2011 E3. In the chaotic mess of E3, through the thousands of people swarming around, and the hundreds of games being presented, there was new hardware being presented, only one year later after Nintendo announced their new handheld, the 3DS. The Wii U, the next generation unit from Nintendo, was announced this year to the public and it has some new tricks to go along. Nintendo has said that the hardware inside the units being shown is not final, but it is on par if not better then the current generation of hardware. The Wii U looks like a first generation Xbox 360 had a baby with a Wii. It’s a slightly curvy yet generic looking unit. It has an optical drive slot and all the usual buttons on the first of the box, but the different thing that they presented was what you play the Wii U with. Read the full story

About Marooners’ Rock

Everyone grows up; this is how the world works. Just because we grow decrepit and old, however, does not mean we have to forsake the things that make us happy, childish though they may seem. This is the core concept of Marooners’ Rock; we geek out on the things of our past, present, and future. Society and cultural norms be damned!
