E3 2011: First Glance at the Wii U

Nintendo pulled a slightly expected fast one on the crowds of people at 2011 E3. In the chaotic mess of E3, through the thousands of people swarming around, and the hundreds of games being presented, there was new hardware being presented, only one year later after Nintendo announced their new handheld, the 3DS. The Wii U, the next generation unit from Nintendo, was announced this year to the public and it has some new tricks to go along. Nintendo has said that the hardware inside the units being shown is not final, but it is on par if not better then the current generation of hardware. The Wii U looks like a first generation Xbox 360 had a baby with a Wii. It’s a slightly curvy yet generic looking unit. It has an optical drive slot and all the usual buttons on the first of the box, but the different thing that they presented was what you play the Wii U with. Read the full story

E3 2011: Kirby Mass Attack

We’re all familiar with Kirby’s bottomless pit of a stomach and uncanny ability to copy his food’s abilities, and we’ve seen Kirby used as a golf ball (Kirby’s Dream Course), placed in patchwork (Kirby’s Epic Yarn) and roll along various locales on Pop Star as a ball (Kirby: Canvas Curse). But we haven’t seen Kirby run around with 10+ smaller copies of himself all screaming “Hiii!” and wreaking untold havoc. That will all change September 19 when Kirby: Mass Attack launches on the Nintendo DS. Read the full story

E3 2011: Captain America: Super Soldier

Superhero video games do not exactly have a reputation for excellence. For every X-Men Arcade, there are two Superman 64s. When you get into superhero video games that are released as tie-ins to superhero movies, it gets even worse. For every Spider-Man 2, there are five games like…well…Spider-Man 3. So while I await the release of any superhero game with great anticipation, due to the success and quality of titles like Spider-Man 2 or X-Men Origins: Wolverine, there’s always an underlying sense of incredible dread, due to the quality of titles like Iron Man or Thor. My current superhero video game anticipation? Captain America: Super Soldier. Having had a chance to play it both at E3 and at a SEGA event prior to E3, I have to say that the only dread I feel about this title is the month+ I still have to wait to get my hands on it for real. Review: Universal Gadget Wrist Charger

Mobile technology is, quite frankly, one of the scientific advancements I am most thankful for. We are living in Star Trek (minus warp drive and sexy green women), and when I sit back and think about that, I am simply amazed at how far we have come in such a short time. Now, for the love of Trelane, science me up a new battery technology to keep my devices running longer! As I await that next leap in science, I can at least keep my mobile technology charged via alternate solutions. Read the full story

No Pokemon RPG on the Wii

Junichi Masuda, co-founder of Game Freak and director of Pokemon Black & White talked with IGN recently about the new Pokemon game coming out for the Wii. Are you excited about that game? Are you thinking that maybe, with the Wii being an online console and all, we could get a fully fleshed out, gotta catch ‘em all RPG on the most profitable console out right now? Well you are wrong. That is not happening. Sad face time. Read the full story

About Marooners’ Rock

Everyone grows up; this is how the world works. Just because we grow decrepit and old, however, does not mean we have to forsake the things that make us happy, childish though they may seem. This is the core concept of Marooners’ Rock; we geek out on the things of our past, present, and future. Society and cultural norms be damned!
