NeverDead turns one week old today, and DLC is on the way. The title, which has been receiving a large number of very negative reviews, to my confusion and consternation, is moving forward with the additional content, set to reach consoles on February 21st. Expansion Pack Volume 1, as it’s being called, seems to be a bit short of the content I would expect out of something referred to as an “expansion pack,” but a rose by any other name, and all that jazz. So, what exactly does NeverDead’s first expansion/DLC bring to players? Read the full story

I have mentioned this multiple times on this site, but while I may have been born in the very early 80′s, I am a child of the 90′s. I wore wallet chains, baggy shorts that were so long they may as well have been pants, and I was rarely ever without my backwards cap. It was a simpler time, with great style, great games, and great music. Pearl Jam was huge in the 90′s, and while they may have gone downhill considerably from what I consider their peak era, it has no chance of diminishing the impact they had on me when I was but a wee 90′s grunge/skater poster boy. Adam Jensen’s consciousness slowly fades in as he finds himself strapped to an EMP chair, negating his augmented abilities. An interrogation begins, and the first strength of Deus Ex: Human Revolution‘s first DLC experience, The Missing Link, becomes apparent. Adam escapes, and the second strength of The Missing Link becomes apparent. Adam fights or sneaks his way to the end, and the third strength of The Missing Link becomes apparent. Adam returns to his main story, and the failing of The Missing Link becomes apparent. Read the full story

I have a bit of a love-love relationship with NinjaBee’s games. When we first got our current Xbox 360, I was browsing through the XBL Marketplace and decided to look through the avatar games, where I found A Kingdom for Keflings. I showed my wife, we took a risk and bought some points, and had a blast. When we first heard that a sequel was being developed in A World of Keflings, our excitement was palpable, and we experienced a game improved in every way. When we saw Akimi Village at E3, my wife almost skipped other appointments to continue sitting there playing, and when we got our hands on it to review, we found that it had some really innovative advancements over the Keflings series (that hopefully will make their way into a third Keflings game one day). Now, I get to return to my World of Keflings with the newly released It Came From Outer Space DLC, and I couldn’t be happier. Well, I could be a little happier, but we’ll talk about that in a few paragraphs. Read the full story

Downloadable Content (DLC) has been a total game-changer this generation for consoles. From PC-like expansions, to map packs, we’ve seen just about every type of digital good sold either on Xbox Live Marketplace or the PSN Store. Under all the glitter and gold of really great DLC, is a very dark world. Something much worse than the nickel and dime DLC trick (I’m looking at you Guitar Hero and Rock Band), I speak of DLC that’s delivered on the game disc. Is this practice ever acceptable, or is this just another way to make gamers pay twice over for content they already own?

Looks like DLC passes might be the wave of the future. First Rockstar’s L.A. Noire, now Warner Bros. Mortal Kombat (you can read my review on the game here) is using this business model to sell DLC. The way it works is you buy the pass for 1200 Microsoft Points ($15 Bucks), and it gives you future DLC at a discounted rate. Without the pass, Skarlet, Rain, Kenshi, and a yet to be announced kombatant will cost you 400 Microsoft Points ($5 bucks) a piece. Each warrior will include their own Compatibility Pack (these are free to download for those who do not purchase the DLC), which will include two classic skins. The Season Pass is exclusive to Microsoft’s Xbox 360. Read the full story

You know how I feel about Portal 2. It’s the only game I’ve given a perfect score (and may, in fact, be the only game that we, as a whole, have given a perfect score to, though some others have come tantalizingly close). The only imperfect thing about it is that there weren’t more test chambers, gameplay modes, or leaderboards. If ONLY there were some way to add those features post-release…wait, what? DLC for Portal 2 has been announced? Read the full story
