Blogathon Announcement: And Our Charity is….

Hello there World of Meh! readers. Last month I told you all that we would be doing the Blogathon again this year. I also hinted at what our charity would be. I did get a couple of guesses, but nobody got it right. With sign-ups officially starting on July 1st, I figured I should let you all in on who we have chosen this year. Think you know who it could be?

I’m proud to announce that this year, World of Meh! will be blogging for One Love For Chi. Both Chris and I are big fans of Deftones, and I’ve been following Chi Cheng’s medical progress for some time. For those of you who are unaware, Chi was in a terrible car accident back in 2008 that left him in a coma. Through his family’s hard work, love, and dedication to his recovery, Chi is now in a mildly conscious state. If any of you are familiar with how expensive medical bills can be, you can begin to imagine how expensive its been for his loved ones.

Chi has an opportunity to go to a state of the art facility in New Jersey where he will be under the care of some amazing neurologists. Those neurologists were even featured on a recent episode of MTV’s True Life: I Have A Traumatic Brain Injury that aired on May 3rd. The treatment Chi would receive has an 80% success rate, but like everything else, this will cost money. One Love For Chi has been furiously trying to raise the funds necessary through auctions, concert benefits, songs and CD’s made specially for this, and through donations. As of today, they have managed to raise over $5,000 of the $500,000 needed. Here is where we come in.

Due to our current situation, Chris and I are unable to contribute financially. We can, however, donate our time, and the Blogathon is a perfect way to do so. While I can’t go into too much detail right now regarding our big plans, just know that we have some tricks up our sleeve. I’m working on getting some pretty incredible prizes to give away during the Blogathon, but you must donate in order to be entered. More information on how that will work will be posted on July 1st, and details about the prizes and more will trickle in throughout July.

Chi Cheng has given us beautiful and amazing music, so the least we can do is help out and hope that our readers and their friends can donate whatever they can. I’m really excited to be doing this, and I really hope that we can all come together for this amazing cause. I also ask that you help spread the word, and get as much buzz going because that will help us make the Blogathon successful.

So, there you have it. The charity we’ve chosen is One Love For Chi, and I can’t wait for when I have more good news to share!

Writers Wanted

Currently, World of Meh! is handled by both myself and Chris. With Chris working full-time, 6 days a week, and me only being able to think up of so much to write about, we are looking for a few bright, snarky, and geeky individuals to join us.

I should probably state that it’s a voluntary position meaning there is no financial compensation involved. World of Meh! is a labor of love, and to date, we haven’t made a cent off of it, although we wouldn’t complain if we started to earn some form of revenue from it. Before I go off on a tangent, let me lay out the details:

  • There is no daily/weekly posting quota. Post whenever you can, although more is always better because it helps boost traffic.
  • We ask that you do your best regarding English and grammar. We reserve the right to edit any posts if you’ve accidentally missed anything.
  • Please keep in theme with the site. If you go through past posts, you will see that we don’t mind swearing, nudity (as long as you flag it), off the wall topics… but we won’t allow racism, Sarah Palin, posts/mentions about animal or child abuse, sex crimes, or anything else that will make men in suits want to bash down our door.
  • You will be given your own special worldofmeh.com email address
  • We will add you to our upcoming ‘Contact Us’ page with links to your Twitter, Xbox Live Account, and other shit like that.

Since we currently don’t own a PlayStation 3 console, we would love to have a writer for that. We would love to have a few more writers with Xbox Live accounts so we can host a Community Playdate. Also, with E3 beating down our door, we will need the extra hands to help cover that. We can’t do it all on our own. It’s just too much. With that being said, we’re going to need help for the upcoming Blogathon. Our current plan is to divide the day into shifts, because when Chris and I did it by ourselves last year, we wanted to die. No joke.

So, if interested, please email me (lindsey@worldofmeh.com) a writing sample or link to your blog/site if you are currently writing somewhere else, an estimate on how many posts you think you could contribute in a week, a brief summary about yourself describing interests and any relevant experience you may have, and your AIM screen name, if you have one.

Chris and I will review all submissions as soon as they come in, and we want to have this all sorted out by next Monday. Although I should probably say that if any submissions are turned in after Monday, we will still seriously consider them, because we know that if the tables were turned, we would want somebody to do that for us.

Good luck, and thank you all in advance for wanting to be a part of this!

We’re Doing Blogathon Again!

For those of you who were around last year, in July Chris and I participated in this fabulous, and draining, thing called a Blogathon.

A Blogathon is where, for 24 hours straight, we put up a new post every 30 minutes – and we make no profit from it. Doing the Blogathon was crazy, hectic, semi-stressful (mostly due to us having a lot to do on that day), but it was for charity, and that made it worth it. Chris and I chose Reading is Fundamental because we both love to read, we both think that children having access to books is important, and it is a charity where the donated funds are used properly rather than into some CEO’s wallet.

After much debate, because after the one last year I got burnt out and stopped writing, we’ve decided to give it a go again this year. In the shower yesterday I thought of a deserving charity, and after discussing my idea with Chris, we are hoping that it all works out. I won’t say what the charity/group is yet, because if things don’t pan out, I don’t want to get peoples hopes up, but I will give a clue “headup.” If you think you know what it is, please keep it to yourself, or feel free to email me about it rather than put it in a comment.

So, the Blogathon this year will be July 31st, 6 AM PST until August 1st, 6 AM PST. Sign-ups for it will start on July 1st, and as the event gets closer, more details will be released. If you are able to donate/sponsor us, please start putting your money aside as we will be having drawings and contests throughout the Blogathon. We want to make this a really fun event for everybody. I’m thinking that for every dollar an individual donates, they earn one entry into the raffle. Depending on how many prizes we have, we might have a drawing every 2 hours. Start spreading the word too because, if we do end up helping out this charity, I can assure you that it will be the biggest thing to ever happen to this site. No joke.

I’m really excited, and anxious, about the Blogathon, and hopefully you guys are too. If there are any particular topics you want to see us touch on during the Blogathon, feel free to leave it in a comment below.

Bed Time!

OMG!

It’s 6 AM. It’s time for bed!

Thank you so much for sharing this Blogathon experience with us. Thank you to all of our Sponsors.

To all of you who couldn’t be a sponsor, we can still accept sponsors and donations up until this Friday around midnight so please keep spreading the word about everything we’ve done today and our charity.

Harry Potter and Zelda winners will be announced on Monday, so please be sure to check and see if you were selected.

Also, we should be having some additional giveaways throughout the week to keep the Blogathon momentum going.

Thank you all again, and for those of you who became new readers of this wonderful site… welcome, we hope to see more of you :)

GOOD NIGHT!

… and yes, I am shutting my PC down RIGHT NOW!

5:30

What is this?

Can it be…..

5:30 in the morning?

Oh sweet merciful!

Sorry that our recent posts have lacked images, but I honestly can’t be bothered to keep everything going and do all of that on top of it.

I will go through the blog tomorrow (or shall I say later on today) and add in images that would be appropriate and fitting for each post.

Again, sorry that things are becoming so half-assed but you have no idea how damn tired I am.

I don’t even have the energy to reply to any comments.

Anxiety Kicking In

I’ve never blogged about this before, but I actually suffer from anxiety. Unfortunately the anxiety also causes panic attacks, and I do have a bit of agoraphobia. I’ve had it since February 2001 and went from November 2001 until June of 2007 without any panic attacks, and without the use of meds or seeing a therapist.

Now my recent claim to fame is that I have gone from June 2007 until now without a panic attack.

With anxiety, they say that getting good sleep, and not consuming anything with caffeine in it, helps keep it at a tolerable level.

I’m exhausted.

My anxiety has been through the roof for a few hours and I am so glad that I can turn off the computer in about an hour.

I wanted to make a blog about anxiety today but didn’t get the time to make a proper one, so while this one will touch on it… I will be making one that will go into more detail at a later time.

Now I am going to go and focus on something to help keep my mind from being overly busy for the next 20 or so minutes.

Be back in a few!

Wedding Presents

We decided to tear open a few of our wedding presents and see what we got.

First up, from one of my mom’s cousins, we got a nice crystal fruit bowl.

From my aunt, we got a very nice tea set, including cups, saucers, and more.

From another of my mom’s cousins, we got a nice crystal platter.

photo 5

Yet another of my mom’s cousins got us a wonderful crock pot (finally, something practical!).

photo 3

One of my cousins got us a45 piece set of flatware (another practical gift!).

photo 4

And last, but not least, one of my uncles gave us a check (three practical gifts in a row!  score!).

(Sorry, no picture of this one!)

Only a few people brought gifts, but that’s ok because it wasn’t really a gift giving party.

Lindsey, J-Pop Suuuupa Star!

I know this might sound odd, but I really like Japanese music. I do like the traditional music, but I am talking about silly J-Pop.

What tickles me to no end is that in Japan you can make millions of dollars and not dance or even have a good voice.

Hello friends, I am going to get a passport, fly to Japan, and be a J-Pop Star. I have an alright voice and my dance moves can get me by.

Shit… if this crap can be popular in Japan, be prepared for me to be rolling in some SERIOUS bank in the next few years lol

Party Aftermath

After the wedding party was over, the work of cleaning began.  Mom and Lindsey had already run at least two loads through the dishwasher throughout the night, and this is part of what was left over…

I’ll be heading back to help sometime later in the afternoon.

Finally Home!

So right now… it is… *looks at clock in lower right corner of monitor* 3:01. We finally got home. The car with the gifts has been unloaded, I have used the restroom, got out of my uncomfortable dress, and am sitting in the chair at my desk – with the bed directly behind me.

The bed beckons me. It says “Lindsey, come lay in me. I am so comfy. You love me so much, and I love you too.”

Must. Resist. Bed.

With like 3 more hours to go, I don’t know how we are going to do it. Chris wanted to fall asleep at the wheel (safety first!) and I feel like I got hit with a ton of bricks.

Nobody wanted to leave his Moms house! They stayed, and kept talking, and saying bye takes like an hour for each person. It’s ridiculous.

Of course we stayed a little afterwards to help pick stuff up and what not because she went through a lot of trouble doing all of that for us, but man oh man… the Sandman sure is looking good right now.

I will keep on going. Even if I have to set an alarm to wake me at ever 20 and 50 minutes after every hour I will. It can be the Mentos jingle for all I care.

Hell… it can be the fucking Zuma Zuma song.

About Marooners’ Rock

Everyone grows up; this is how the world works. Just because we grow decrepit and old, however, does not mean we have to forsake the things that make us happy, childish though they may seem. This is the core concept of Marooners’ Rock; we geek out on the things of our past, present, and future. Society and cultural norms be damned!

For more detail, please see our About page.
