Gameplay Video Released for Sonic Colors

For years I’ve been a Sonic fan. It all started when I just had to get a Sega Genesis to play the original Sonic the Hedgehog. Then when Sonic 2 game out, I had to get that as well. Unfortunately, for some franchises there are bumps in the road, and sometimes that leads to our childhood memories becoming tarnished.

…..

On November 16th, just in time for the holiday season, Sega will release Sonic Colors for Nintendo Wii and DS. While Sonic Colors is still highly different than what we were given on the Genesis, things are beginning to shift in the right direction.

Promising to take us on a “high speed adventure,” Sonic Colors will have our beloved blue hedgehog racing through theme park inspired worlds to save an alien race, known as Wisps, from the wicked Dr. Robotnik (even though the PR statement calls him Dr. Eggman, he will forever be Robotnik to me). If you remember in the classic Sonic’s, you had to get Chaos Emeralds that were seven different colors. The Emeralds are gone, and instead a colorful Wisp takes its place.

With each Wisp Sonic rescues, he gains a new ability, and so far we know that yellow allows him to drill through the ground, cyan allows him to speed through the level as a laser, and orange will boost Sonic into the air so he can reach secret places and get hidden rings. On the Wii, Sonic Colors will feature the current 3D perspective along with some throwbacks to the good ol’ 2D days, whereas for the DS, they will utilize the dual screens of the device.

From the trailer, my initial impressions are that the game looks fun as Hell and I can’t wait to get my hands on it. While I don’t really care for the song used in the trailer, if you listen to the lyrics, it makes perfect sense. A whole new chapter in the Sonic universe begins this November, and I hope that it lives up to its legacy.

For those wanting to reserve a copy of Sonic Colors, I suggest going to GameStop. Why? Because there are many locations throughout the US, but if you like getting free stuff with your game, by reserving at GameStop, you get a nifty Sonic the Hedgehog hat when you pick up your copy at launch.

This game looks really good graphic wise. I’m almost surprised it’s on the wii. +1 to the games I want list.

    Great post Lindsey!

I’m looking forward to both this and Sonic 4. This seems kind of like a Sonic/Super Mario Galaxy mash-up, which is awesome, while Sonic 4 looks like a full on retro-smash-my-face-up-with-awesomeness.

        Completely agreed.

Yeah I’m actually pretty excited about this game, which says a lot. The past Sonic games have been a little “meh” so it’s nice to see them returning to what Sonic is all about. I too am amazed at how great the game looks. Only time will tell though!

and you guys keep telling me to get the BOX first???

One more reason Wii is something I want

Here’s the thing, Wii games are hit and miss. The 360 has a more solid catalog of games I know you will like. Very rarely are there good games put out for the Wii for an adult/mature audience. It’s more of the kid/family console. Good luck finding a proper rated M for mature game for the Wii that hasn’t been dumbed down from PS3 or 360 versions. They did that with Dead Rising for Wii. Ours is just sitting here collecting dust, and that started as soon as we got the 360.

The controller is superior, the online is superior, and there are things that my daughter can play.

But see, I do play those console releases…in better resolution ^_^

the Wii looks like something I would have more fun with, since a BOX or PS3 is basically a lesser PC. I want a box, but I doubt I would ever play it, as I dont have time for multiplayer often, and any major release that is offered on PC is going to be purchased on steam,so not alot of games that I can only get on BOX

I am all about old school style, and I think the wii just might offer a better line up for that kind of thing. I dont see alot of retro on BOX

About Marooners’ Rock

Everyone grows up; this is how the world works. Just because we grow decrepit and old, however, does not mean we have to forsake the things that make us happy, childish though they may seem. This is the core concept of Marooners’ Rock; we geek out on the things of our past, present, and future. Society and cultural norms be damned!
