Dragon Age 2 Trailer Kicks Some Serious Ass

Today BioWare released the first of what will be many trailers for Dragon Age 2. At the time of the announcement back in July, details were scarce. All we knew was that the game would focus around a male or female named Hawke, that the story would span 10 years, that he or she would become the most important figure in the Dragon Age universe, and that the game was getting revamped.

I admit, I’ve been incredibly skeptical about this game, and that is only because I love Dragon Age: Origins so much. When I heard they were changing the art style, changing the combat, and so many other things, I worried that things would be screwed up big time. While this trailer is gorgeous, and while everything looks awesome, there is no actual gameplay shown, and I imagine that’s because we are still so far out from the March release. I’m excited about the game, don’t get me wrong, but until I see something a little more tangible, a large chunk of me will continue to remain skeptical.

During the press conference at Gamescom today, BioWare said that they are “injecting the franchise with a shot of adrenaline.” With smoother graphics and a better visuals, BioWare hopes that players can get into the new frame narrative they’ve added. The controls have been made more responsive, so when you press a button now, something actually happens rather than there being a delayed response, like in Origins. Also, they still want players to have control over their entire party, so none of that has been taken away.

So, check out the trailer for Dragon Age 2, and let me know what you think in a comment below!

Dragon Age 2 will be released on March 8th, 2011 in North America, and on March 11th, 2011 for Europe. Sign up for the official newsletter, and you’ll receive a special in-game item for your character when the game launches.

About Marooners’ Rock

Everyone grows up; this is how the world works. Just because we grow decrepit and old, however, does not mean we have to forsake the things that make us happy, childish though they may seem. This is the core concept of Marooners’ Rock; we geek out on the things of our past, present, and future. Society and cultural norms be damned!
