The Return of the Dreamcast

The Return of the Dreamcast

September 9, 1999 is a day that will live in gamers’ memories for a long time.  It marked the release of SEGA’s Dreamcast console.  The Dreamcast’s graphics, online gameplay, and hardware were ahead of its time creating a community of enthusiasts that still regard the Dreamcast as one of their favorite consoles (myself included).

Fans of the Dreamcast’s memorable and incredibly entertaining game library have reason to celebrate.  To celebrate the 11th anniversary of the SEGA Dreamcast, SEGA will begin releasing select titles on the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live.  These titles will have updated high-resolution graphics, surround sound, online leaderboards, and achievements/trophies.  Currently, the only two announced titles for release this fall are Sonic Adventure, and fan favorite Crazy Taxi.

I, for one, can’t wait to get behind the wheel again and start picking up high-resolution fares!

They should remake Outrigger or Space Channel 5, though my favorite dreamcast titles has got to be Jet Grind Radio

There were so many great games for the Dreamcast. We still have the one you sent us sitting here with the rest of the consoles, but I haven’t…acquired…more than four or five games for it.

About Marooners’ Rock

Everyone grows up; this is how the world works. Just because we grow decrepit and old, however, does not mean we have to forsake the things that make us happy, childish though they may seem. This is the core concept of Marooners’ Rock; we geek out on the things of our past, present, and future. Society and cultural norms be damned!
